Here at 963, we’ve started the new year off right by baking more bread. And by more bread, I mean fresh loaves of rosemary ciabatta or french baguettes every second day or so. That’s because I finally found some easy peasy recipes for bread machine ciabatta and bread machine baguettes, both of which keep turning [...]

More Fresh Produce

That’s it for our first set of beets, and that’s our first cucumber. Lots more where that one came from. They’re growing so fast, you can practically sit on the grass and watch them get bigger.
963 Treat

Some of us who shall remain nameless are big on snacks and treats here at 963 (yes, you Red). Someone else (you know who you are) sent us Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee a couple of weeks ago for a treat. Mmmmm, what a treat. Mine’s gone already, but I know where The Other One is [...]

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about loving the new cookbook Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. Well, I take it back. Yes, the bread is easy and doesn't take too long, but the texture of the loaves doesn't seem quite right to me, so I've sent that book back to the library [...]

Veggies have to become more central here at 963, and I finally found a homemade dressing that makes me want to eat buckets of raw vegetables. It's from the Rebar Modern Food Cookbook by Audrey Alsterberg and Wanda Urbanowicz. Rebar is a quirky fresh food, mostly vegetarian restaurant in Victoria, British Columbia. Every time we're [...]
Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day

Fresh-baked bread is a big part of life at 963, and this is my new favorite go-to bread book. Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day sounds too good to be true, but it works for me so far. The trick is mixing up a big batch of dough (a "master recipe") that can be [...]

Another loaf. This time, Country Seed Bread.
