Putting Vanilla on a Furnace Filter

Alright. I'm going in. I've got a bottle of vanilla and I'm headed down to the furnace room.

(Pause.)

Oh my. OK. I haven't been in there in awhile, and things have really deteriorated. But first things first. I thought while I had the filter out I might as well put in a fresh one even though we're not due to change the filter for another two weeks. But it was definitely time. Here they are side by side:

That's quite a difference between old and new for less than 3 months of filtering. Obviously these higher-end filters are picking up something! In any case, the fresh one is in now, sprinkled with pure vanilla extract. But I made the mistake of looking around while I was in that little room, and I saw cobwebs like this that suggest a big spider is lurking somewhere. (The photo isn't very clear but that's a pipe going into the floor that's surrounded by such a thick cobweb that it's hard to see the end of the pipe.)

I'll have to go back in the daytime to get rid of it or I'll give myself nightmares. Small furnace room, dim fluorescent lightbulb, spider webs, hidden things lurking in corners. You get the picture.
