Update: Putting Vanilla on a Furnace Filter

Last week, I tried a tip from This Old House that was supposed to freshen up the house naturally: a couple of drops of pure vanilla extract on the furnace filter. I started out with those two drops and after a few days hadn't noticed a difference in the house at all. So I pulled out the filter again, and this time I sprinkled about 15 drops all over. Still nothing. What does it all mean? Maybe we've lost our sense of smell and it's all vanilla all the time over here. Maybe my kind of vanilla doesn't work for some reason. Or maybe the magic drop number is 16. In any case, it's time to try something else. If anybody has had any better success, please do let us know.
