Spraypainting Brass Fixtures

There's a lot of them-thar-gold in this house, and by that I mean gold-colored fixtures: lamps, towel racks, door handles, closet knobs, and on and on. We're not that fond of gold, so I started to figure out what we can do about it. Yes, we could just rip everything out, buy something else, and put it in, but what's the fun in that?

After a bit of poking around, I found that industrious home-owners everywhere are spraypainting their brass fixtures with something called Oil-Rubbed Bronze (ORB) spraypaint. The before and after pictures are something to behold, so I thought I'd give it a try, because the white and gold towel racks in the master bathroom taunt me every time I walk by.

Orb1 The number one recommended ORB paint is American Accents ORB by Rustoleum, followed by Brushed Metallics ORB by Krylon. But after hunting for either one in Home Depot, WalMart, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Rona, and Michaels, I don't think there's any to be found in town. Somebody online said it's worth trying to special order a case of 6 cans because the color and finish is so fantastic. So that's what I'll try next. If I can find the paint, there will be much rejoicing. Followed by spraying.
