All kinds of birds are out in force at 963 this week: robins, chickadees, brown sparrows, starlings, and spotted towhees. The robins are huge, and they go around making cannonball splashes in the pond. And at the other end of the garden, in a little bit of dust under a pine shrub, the others are dust-bathing.
I’d never seen that before and had to look it up – birds take a dust bath by flinging loose soil over themselves. Wild birds do it, they say, to rid themselves of parasites.
Well, whatever the reason, we’re a full service bird spa here at 963 – water bath, dust bath, snacks. I bet the cat next door is jealous.
